Jonathan’s international background enables him to make use of his wider cultural experiences to understand and contribute to M.B. KEMP LLP’s international client needs. Jonathan began his legal studies in the UK and returned to Hong Kong to complete his PCLL and training.
As a litigation and dispute resolution lawyer, Jonathan is able to help clients to resolve disputes through amicable negotiations to achieve solution-oriented results, attributed to his great communication, analytical and creative problem-solving skills, which are crucial to excel in his position at the firm’s Dispute Resolution Group. In addition, Jonathan also has experience in handling both contentious and non-contentious employment matters.
Outside of work, Jonathan strives to develop hobbies in the quest to achieve work life balance. Jonathan is a keen sportsman who exercise regularly and particularly enjoy playing football and rugby. Jonathan always feels more productive by getting out of bed early on a daily basis and start the day, whether it be in the office on weekdays or on a rugby pitch at 6:30 a.m. during the weekends.
Commercial litigation
- Assisting a European company to recover stolen funds as a result of scam/fraud involving fraudulent transfer of funds
- Assisting the joint and several liquidators of a Hong Kong company to recover funds siphoned from a company incorporated in the BVI
- Successfully handling a Norwich Pharmacal application and Gagging Order relief for a Singapore company as a result of email fraud involving fraudulent transfer of funds
- Handling various interlocutory applications including specific discovery application and application to discharge a Mareva injunction
- Successfully obtaining delivery up orders against 2 family-owned trading companies on behalf of a shareholder holding one-third shares in the said companies pursuant to the Companies Ordinance (Cap. 622).
- Handling debt recovery actions, including obtaining court’s leave to serve concurrent writ out of jurisdiction successfully
- Handling shareholders’ disputes
Employment
- Advising clients in an employment dispute involving allegations of breach of restraint of trade clause and unauthorised use of confidential information
- Advising a multinational corporation on the termination of a director. Drafted separation agreement, assisted in drafting legal advice and to calculate termination payments
- Assisted in drafting and reviewing employment contracts, consultancy agreements and employee’s handbook
