Peter Hodson was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1981 and whilst not currently holding a practicing certificate from the Law Society of Hong Kong he practises as a solicitor in England and Wales where he was admitted in 1975 and is regulated by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority. Peter is also an Accredited Mediator with the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) in London and with the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. Peter worked in Hong Kong and Singapore for over twenty five years including positions as head of legal and compliance for Standard Chartered Bank’s trustee operations in Hong Kong and Singapore from 1985 to 1991, and with Bank of Bermuda Trustees in Hong Kong from 1994 to 1998 before moving to Guernsey, as Head of Private Clients Europe for Bank of Bermuda in 1998, following which he established his own personal fiduciary, legal and compliance consultancy company, Hodson & Company Limited operating since 2002 until 2022.
Peter was licensed and regulated by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission as a Personal Fiduciary under the Regulation of Fiduciaries and Administration of Businesses (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2000 until 31 August 2022 when he relocated to the UK.
Peter is also a member of the Institute of Directors in London and holds their professional Diploma qualification in Company Direction. His work as a professional problem solver has often involved him undertaking appointments as an independent director, protector, enforcer and co-trustee of complex family structures as well as acting as a facilitator or mediator in a variety of trust, fiduciary, employment and commercial disputes.
In addition, he acts as a non-executive director for private and listed investment funds as well as private wealth structures. The special skills and expertise he brings to the Board are in the areas of legal, compliance and corporate governance. In these roles he:
• sits on the investment committee, evaluating and reviewing the performance of the investment manager and co-ordinating the investment process between the investment adviser, the trustees and other members of the investment committee, both as a director and protector of private wealth structures.
• sits on various Board committees for Investment Funds, such as the Nomination Committee, evaluating the effectiveness of the Board.
• acts as an independent conflicts reviewer of the due diligence processes undertaken by the investment manager prior to the acceptance of a new fund under a portfolio of pooled funds.
• has been appointed to review the business risk assessment and risk matrix, assessing investment sale transactions in terms of anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing risks.
